Custom Paving’s roots began in 1916 with R.L. Murphey of Corsicana, TX mixing Portland cement and gravel in the back of a horse drawn wagon. Almost 40 years later, Howard Thomas Murphey, Sr. brought the family business into the modern era establishing Murphey Construction. He and his eldest son, Tom Murphey II moved to Houston in 1976, starting Custom Paving, specializing in asphalt parking lots, chip - seal and road paving. Locating Custom Paving to its present location on Breen Drive, Tom took over operations in 1988. Adding another generation in 1995, Eric Murphey continues an almost 100 year old family tradition. Valerie Murphey, Tom’s wife of 38 years and mother of Eric, Dr. Brett and Matt, joined the team in 1996. With Valerie as president and majority owner, Custom Paving, Inc. is a certified Woman Owned Minority Business
